First Annual Pizza Open Benefits Three Local Families

6/17/2016 |

Two local East Longmeadow favorites, Fazio’s Ristorante & Pizzeria and The Pizza Shoppe, teamed up for the first annual Pizza Open Golf Tournament on June 6, 2016. The two restaurants are located just down the street from each other but have come together for a special cause.

The tournament was held at Franconia Golf Course in Springfield and started at 10:00am sharp. Individuals could register to play for $100 or $400 for a 4-person team. Lunch and dinner were provided by Fazio’s and served at The Pizza Shoppe.

Both restaurants are not only known for their pizza but for their generosity to the community. Proceeds that were raised through the registrations benefitted the families of Joe Berrouard, Isabella Sterlacci, and Alex Blais, who are all battling cancer. Berrouard, of East Longmeadow, has been diagnosed with sarcoma, and Sterlacci is a six year old Meadow Brook Elementary school student who is battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Alex Blais, another East Longmeadow native, is battling brain cancer.

Fazio’s and The Pizza Shoppe met with all of the families on Thursday, June 16 to split the $3,600 that was fundraised. Each family received $1,200. Thank you to all of the tournament participants and especially to the sponsors, Fazio’s and The Pizza Shoppe. The first annual Pizza Open Golf Tournament was a success!
